Ha Long or Lan Ha Bay: Which Bay and Which Cruise?
Updated October 28, 2026 · 4 min read
Pick Ha Long for a one-day highlights route; pick a Ha Long–Lan Ha itinerary when you want to sleep aboard and the cabin matters. The Ha Long day cruise starts at €35.42 and lists Sung Sot Cave, Ti Top Island, Luon Cave and Titop beach. The two-day Ha Long and Lan Ha cruise starts at €113.23 and describes a balcony cabin, sundeck and restaurant.
The real choice is the route
Ha Long Bay and the Cat Ba Archipelago form one UNESCO World Heritage property, extended in 2023. A cruise name alone does not tell you which part of that large seascape you will see. Read the daily itinerary and the embarkation point. A listing that says both bays may spend different amounts of time in each.
Day boat or cabin boat
The day trip is activity-led and returns within one day. The two-day listing is accommodation-led: the balcony and night aboard are central to its value. Another two-day Lan Ha and Ha Long cruise costs from €127.58 and names kayaking, swimming and a cooking class.
Before paying, confirm the cabin category, whether transfers from Hanoi are included, meals, drinks and any single supplement. Do not assume that “five-star” is a standardised cabin class across operators.
Our recommendation
For one free day, book the Ha Long highlights cruise. For two days, choose the itinerary rather than the bay name: compare the actual stops and cabin, then take the Ha Long–Lan Ha cruise with a balcony if those details suit you.
