Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Temple of Literature in One Day
Updated October 28, 2026 · 3 min read
Visit the mausoleum first because its admission window is limited; keep the Temple of Literature for later. In 2026 the annual maintenance closure runs through 2 November, with visits due to resume on 3 November. Check the official notice again on the morning you go: closures and ceremonies can override a normal timetable.
Start at Ba Dinh Square
The mausoleum is a solemn memorial, not a conventional museum. Cover shoulders and knees, follow security instructions and do not photograph inside. Queues vary, so avoid a tight appointment afterwards. The surrounding complex includes the stilt house, One Pillar Pagoda and a museum, but access and tickets differ.
A guided half-day Hanoi highlights tour offers morning or afternoon departures and transfers. Confirm whether the current itinerary enters the mausoleum or only visits the area; a city-tour title does not guarantee admission.
Continue to the Temple of Literature
This separate historic complex is associated with learning and Vietnam’s early national academy. It suits the afternoon because it normally keeps broader daytime hours. Buy the current ticket at the official entrance and allow time for courtyards, gateways and stone stelae.
Our recommendation
Do both independently if you can arrange transport and read site information. Choose a guide when historical context matters more than flexibility. Never assume the mausoleum will open: confirm first, then make a successful entry the fixed point of the day.
