Ninh Binh From Hanoi: Trang An, Tam Coc or Mua Cave?
Updated October 28, 2026 · 4 min read
For a first Ninh Binh day trip, combine one boat route with Mua Cave rather than trying to fit both Trang An and Tam Coc. The Ninh Binh day tour with Trang An and Mua Cave starts at €42.81 and has 11,484 reviews.
Trang An or Tam Coc?
Vietnam Tourism describes Tam Coc as the shorter option, normally around two hours by boat, through three caves and rice fields. Trang An offers several routes through a protected landscape with caves and temples; published route lengths are roughly 2–4 hours. The Trang An Landscape Complex is a UNESCO mixed cultural and natural property.
What Mua adds
Mua is the viewpoint, not another boat ride. The climb is steep and is commonly described as about 500 steps. Skip it if stairs or heat make the ascent unsuitable; the tour remains a long day even without chasing every viewpoint.
The linked tour combines Bai Dinh or Hoa Lu, Trang An and Mua. Another Ninh Binh tour with Hoa Lu, Trang An and Mua starts at €44.69 and also names cycling. Confirm which temple option, boat route, lunch and bicycle use apply to your departure.
Our recommendation
Choose Trang An plus Mua for a varied first day. Choose Tam Coc instead when a shorter boat ride and rice-field scenery matter more. If you want both boat areas without rushing, stay overnight in Ninh Binh rather than forcing them into one Hanoi day trip.
